This song took some time to crawl into the back of my head and wiggle its way into the "permanentfavourites" section of my cranium, but now i wonder why it was such a struggle. The effect of the song is, as in most Bollywood songs, due it its context in the movie. An inspired movie, an inspired point in the movie and a song that takes the point and drives it straight into your heart.
Rahman weaves his magic with the tune, but then tries his best to ruin it by singing. Every time I hear his voice I initially cringe, but fix this by singing louder than him, thereby negating the effect of his voice/accent.
This really doesn't need an explanation or a translation, i just wanted to put this down for posterity.
